Scoliosis Specific Exercise Seminars for Professionals
Welcome to the World of Scoliosis-Specific Exercise
Scoliosis-specific exercise is as challenging as it is rewarding. Each time you evaluate a new scoliosis spine, it will be a new and unique experience — particular to the unique person in front of you. Each spine will challenge your skills of assessment and exercise decisions. Not only will you be rewarding yourself for the time you put into your education, but those living with scoliosis are extremely grateful for your dedication to their needs. And it’s not just scoliosis we’re talking about here. Once you can evaluate and work well with scoliosis, all spines become your specialty because what happens in a scoliosis spine happens in all spines — just on a smaller scale. Join us and join the Scolio-Pilates mission of bringing scoliosis-specific exercise to all communities!
Testimonies from your colleagues
I really enjoyed the class. Full of analyzing and problem-solving, thinking out of the box with ideas. Teaching us to “fish”. Love it. I appreciate the fast follow thru with the certificate. – MS
I really appreciate the kind and gentle way you teach the imbalances and to the teachers working to understand them better. It’s confusing and interesting and it seems to be a new puzzle to unravel with every human who walks through the door. – HT
Finally, I am loving the course. I’ve been struggling with online learning. My eyes do not like to look at the computer screen. I usually want to close my eyes and take a nap during online learning. This has NOT happened in your course. Yay! – EH
Very Exciting!! Thanks again! You’re changing the life of a client, as well as my own as her instructor! – M
I saw my first scolio client today and we did ONLY scolio pilates! It was incredible! I love learning this!!!! – AW

Welcome to Scolio-Pilates Module 2
Module 2 builds upon the pre-requisite Module 1, Scolio-Pilates Professional Seminar.
We will dive deeper into understanding the anatomy of scoliosis and use that understanding to define the curves of scoliosis (3, 4, and thoracolumbar curves). Once we define the curves we can begin to understand how to correct those curves toward neutral. We use scoliosis-specific corrections and scoliosis-specific exercises to aid us in bringing our clients towards a more balanced system.
The scoliosis-specific exercises begin with corrections in the basic positions of prone, supine, side-lying, seated, and standing. Once the corrections are applied in the basic positions, we add movement to these corrections either on the mat or with the assistance of the Pilates equipment. Come learn why Scolio-Pilates, a form of Pilates that allows for modifications to assist the client with scoliosis in the Pilates studio, is now being used by children’s hospitals, physical therapy clinics, and Pilates studios worldwide to help with the management of scoliosis.

Welcome to your Scolio-Pilates Module 3: The Mentorship!
We are thrilled that you are applying to be part of our team.
To learn more about the 4-part process of becoming a Scolio-Pilates Practitioner, you can learn more here.
The Scolio-Pilates Mentorship is a 4-day intensive study (24 hours of class time) of three-dimensional exercise for scoliosis for professionals in the field of exercise science. These professionals include, but are not limited to, Pilates Instructors and Physical Therapists.
To apply to this course you must:
- Be a professional in the field of movement: Physical Therapist, Pilates Instructor, etc.
- Complete the Scolio-Pilates Introductory Course or The Scolio-Pilates Anatomy Course along with the Scolio-Pilates Seminar.
- Spend 6-12 months working with scoliosis clients/patients.
- Apply to the Scolio-Pilates Mentorship. This application includes a detailed case report of your work with one scoliosis client/patient. A sample case report
will be sent to you when you make the deposit for the course. The deposit will be returned if your application is not
accepted.
Included in your Mentorship:
- Membership Fee. Your first year of Scolio-Pilates Professional Membership fee is included in your first year.
This fee includes :- 1-hour of access to Karena for help and advice with clients/patients.
- Quarterly professional meetings where we will meet online to discuss all topics related to scoliosis. This professional meeting time is crucial for keeping us all up-to-date on what is happening in the field of scoliosis and exercise. The learning begins in the Mentorship classroom and continues in earnest as you take on more scoliosis clients and collaborate with your colleagues in the profession of scoliosis.
- Scolio-Pilates Starter Kit. These are the Scolio-Wedges to get you started in your Scolio-Pilates practice. They include:
We would love to have you join the Scolio-Pilates Mentorship and Team! More help is needed around the world to support the under-served population of those living with scoliosis!
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Can anyone attend the Mentorship and be an Authorized Scolio-Pilates Practitioner?
No, to be anAuthorized Scolio-Pilates Practitioner, you must be a professional in your field of movement or therapeutic exercise. Pilates instructors and Physical therapists are acceptable professions. If you are a professional in some other form of movement or health management techniques, please just ask us! Email Karena at Karena@osteopilates.com.
- What is the process for becoming an Authorized Scolio-Pilates Practitioner?
You must first attend the Anatomy of Scoliosis course, followed by the Scolio-Pilates Seminar. After attending the Scolio-Pilates Seminar, you can register for the Scolio-Pilates Mentorship. There must be 6-12 months between your Scolio-Pilates Seminar and the Scolio-Pilates Mentorship so that you have time to practice what you learned in your first two courses. When you register for your Mentorship, you will receive a sample case study that you will use as a model to complete your own case study. This case study is part of your application to attend the Scolio-Pilates Mentorship. When your application is accepted, you can then attend the Mentorship. After the Mentorship, you will have more work to do to complete your case study. - What is the case study?
The case study is a basically a very thorough report of the work you performed with one scoliosis client/patient. You will see this client for 10 visits and report on what you did, progress you made, questions you have, and where you want to go next with this client. Please see the sample case study to help you perform this task. - What are the benefits of being an Authorized Scolio-Pilates Practitioner?
There are many. Just to name a few, you will be part of an active Facebook group where you can ask questions of Karena or the other practitioners to help you when you run into questions or need advice with clients or patients. You will be part of a quarterly online meeting to refresh your knowledge and skills of scoliosis and Scolio-Pilates. You will be invited to assist at workshops and Mentorships and eventually you may even be eligible to teach the Anatomy of Scoliosis Preparatory Scolio-Pilates Course. - From a business point of view, is there a need to help those with scoliosis?
Yes, and YES! This is a very under-served population. For several of our practitioners, once they begin seeing scoliosis clients, it becomes the biggest percentage of their clientele. We need more practitioners with a passion for serving this under-served population! - Is it going to be fun or REALLY fun?
It’s going to be REALLY fun! We always have such a great time. The entire journey of becoming an Authorized Scolio-Pilates Practitioner, can be just over a year-long process, but the rewards are great.

Your Module 1 Scolio-Pilates Course is designed to be an experiential approach to understanding scoliosis to enhance learning and advance your teaching skills. Why is the “experience of scoliosis” important? Because three-dimensional correction with Scolio-Pilates is complex. Understanding scoliosis through your own experience, in addition to cognitively, makes it more comprehensible. You will be better equipped to make thoughtful decisions about the exercises you apply versus following a complex series of rules and guidelines Welcome to Scolio-Pilates Module 2. Scolio-Pilates: An Introduction to Scoliosis Exercise
As movement professionals, there are two primary questions that surround scoliosis: What is safe? What is effective?
In this course, we focus on contraindications for scoliosis within a scoliosis-specific exercise program and discuss what is safe outside of a scoliosis-specific program. Together, we will explore how to close the chain in an elongation exercise to provide stability and length simultaneously. You will have new exercises to take home to your clients and a new principle of understanding so you can continue to create closed-chain elongation exercises on your own. After experiencing and applying the movement, we will re-group as a class to discuss the scientific literature that supports this work.
