Pain.
We all know it. We all feel it. And most of us are tired of how it hijacks our energy, time, and joy.
Maybe you’re working through a 1/10 kind of pain—it’s manageable.
A 5/10? That’s the kind that drains you, even if you’re still functioning.
And at a 7/10 or more? That’s when you cancel plans, skip the fun stuff, and spend your days in survival mode.
It’s not just physical, it’s emotional, mental, and financial.
So, what do you do?
Let’s create your custom “Get Out of Pain” Plan.
Step 1: Ask the Right Questions
Start here:
- Is this pain related to something that can be fixed?
- Is the pain acute (under 6 weeks) or chronic (ongoing way too long)?
- What do you need to stay consistent with your healing plan?
Once you’ve answered these questions, you can start tailoring your next steps.
Step 2: “Fix-It” Pain
If your pain might have a fix, gather all the data:
- Have you had the right scans, X-rays, MRIs, or labs?
- Have you talked to all the recommended specialists?
- Are you taking notes on their recommendations?
Build a pain report.
Write everything down: Diagnoses, options, opinions, even if they contradict. This is your personal reference for moving forward.
And yes, if you’re navigating scoliosis-related pain, your Scolio-Pilates® Practitioner is an excellent resource. We often help clients understand what their doctors are telling them and how that translates to movement and healing strategies.
Sometimes, pain can be “fixed.” And if it can? Let’s fix it.
If the answer isn’t so clear or your doctor gives you a 50/50 outcome, then you’ve got more options to consider.
Step 3: Understand the Type of Pain
Acute Pain
Acute pain usually has a clear cause: a fall, surgery, overuse, or trauma.
It hurts, but it often heals with time. Gentle, targeted movement can help speed the process, especially when guided by scoliosis-specific strategies.
Chronic Pain
When healing time has passed but the pain hasn’t… we call it chronic.
And that’s when things get complicated.
Maybe your doctor says, “There’s nothing more I can do.” That’s not just frustrating, it’s lonely.
Chronic pain is more than just a lingering injury. Research shows that it’s a biopsychosocial condition:
- Biological: Tissue, muscles, nerves
- Psychological: Your thoughts, fears, and beliefs
- Sociological: Support systems and life circumstances
To heal chronic pain, you need more than a few stretches. You need a strategy, one that retrains your brain and body to believe that movement without pain is possible again.
This is where a progressive movement plan comes in.
In Scolio-Pilates® On Demand, for instance, we start clients at Level 1, with exercises that are doable, safe, and empowering, then we build from there.
Step 4: Make the BIG Commitment
Healing pain takes more than exercises; it takes a mindset shift. It takes understanding. It takes support.
Education
You need to understand why you’re in pain.
“I have scoliosis” is a start. But learning about the nervous system, biomechanics, and pain science empowers you to take action and stick with it.
Support
Who’s walking this road with you?
You’ll need someone who believes you, listens to you, and supports your healing, not just physically, but emotionally. That might be a Scolio-Pilates practitioner, a friend, a coach, or a classmate. This isn’t just about accountability, it’s about not being alone.
Beliefs
Your beliefs matter.
The messages we hear and tell ourselves, “It’s just aging,” “Nothing can help me,” “I’ll always hurt”, can quietly sabotage healing.
But when we examine those thoughts, we can rewrite them with truth, hope, and action.
