Stacy Joyce developed scoliosis as a child, which progressed rapidly during her teenage years. At age 16, she underwent spinal fusion surgery with Harrington rods and wore a brace for months while healing. Two years later, she took her first yoga class in 1996—a turning point that helped her reconnect with her body after years of pain, surgery, and bracing.
Stacy studied International Business and Spanish and spent two years in the Peace Corps in Honduras before settling in New York City. After years of working in office jobs that became physically unsustainable, she turned her attention to yoga and movement. She completed her 500-hour yoga teacher training in 2012 and later discovered the importance of adapting her practice to support her scoliosis and spinal fusion. In 2020, she completed Elise Miller’s Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Trainer Program and began focusing her teaching exclusively on back care, scoliosis, and spinal fusion.
While Pilates initially didn’t seem accessible based on an early experience, Stacy was introduced to Scolio-Pilates® in 2023 through the National Scoliosis Clinic. She was immediately drawn to its intelligent and inclusive approach for people with scoliosis. Becoming an Authorized Scolio-Pilates® Practitioner has allowed her to merge her passion for mindful movement, alignment, and empowerment.
Stacy loves helping others understand their bodies and find confidence in movement. She believes consistency grows from a deep understanding of our why, and she lives by her three S’s: Stand Tall (cultivate postural awareness), Stand Proud (educate yourself about your scoliosis), and Stand Together (build a supportive scoliosis community).
Stacy lives in the Charlotte Metro area, where she enjoys life with her husband, son, and their Frenchie.
Authorized Scolio-Pilates® Practitioner since 2025.
