As a Pilates teacher, learning is a two-way street for Rachel. She partners with students to discover new, liberating ways to experience their bodies. Rachel’s philosophy is to acknowledge everyone as they are – with unique gifts and challenges. She sees injuries and limitations not as roadblocks, but rather as puzzles to be explored with courage and compassion.
Rachel’s interest in scoliosis began years ago when she first started teaching Pilates. In group classes, there always seemed to be a student or two with a curved spine. One even said: “Pilates is the only exercise that feels good.” That blew her mind and she wanted to know more! Rachel asked a mentor where to gain more knowledge and was directed to the book,“Scolio-Pilates®” by Karena Tech. Over the years, more scoliosis students appeared and Rachel wanted to go deeper…and so began the training program.
Rachel now knows why Pilates felt so good to that scoliosis student – elongation and breath. Those are key elements to balancing a curvy spine and some of the main principals of Joseph Pilates’ exercise system. But Scolio-Pilates® has so much more to offer – and Rachel feels honored to facilitate this ever evolving work.
Originally from Southern California, Rachel has been teaching since 2014 and completed the Balanced Body Comprehensive Teacher Training in the Bay Area. She brings her whole self to every class and session – including experience from former careers as a professional dancer and broadcast journalist.
Authorized Scolio-Pilates Practitioner since September 2024.
