I fell in love with Pilates shortly after completing my graduate studies in Physical Therapy in 1999. While in PT school, I found out I had scoliosis. I began looking for the best forms of exercise to address the scoliosis imbalances and I found Pilates! It didn’t take long for me to realize that Pilates was a life-changer for me and I wanted to share the benefits of it with others.
Mary Beth continued her studies in various Scoliosis treatment methods like the Lyon Method, SEAS Method, and the Schroth Method. She earned a Level I (C1) certification in the well-researched Schroth Method in 2021. This method focuses on improving lung capacity and ribcage expansion with specific breathing exercises, and improving 3D trunk shape with spine lengthening and specific trunk muscle strengthening exercises.
In October 2023, Mary Beth earned the title of “Scolio-Pilates® Practitioner” which she labels as her “favorite” treatment method for scoliosis as it combines the structural corrections of scoliosis with Pilates exercises to make the treatment fun and effective for all types of clients. She looks forward to sharing this exciting method with her clients.
Mary Beth says “it’s been a fun journey of learning” since she first certified with Polestar Pilates International in 2004. She has been teaching rehab-oriented Pilates since then at various locations and has worked as a physical therapist in outpatient orthopedics with a specialty in treating back pain and spine conditions since 1999. Mary Beth.enjoys using her PT skills combined with her Pilates and Scoliosis training to provide the most thorough and effective treatments for her clients!
