Scolio-Pilates: Exercise for Scoliosis Class 2 | Diagonal Elongation for Pain Relief

Today we started to look a little more closely into scoliosis. We defined what is a convexity and a concavity and we talked about the “magic diamond”. While we were doing the “Sleepy Flamingo” from the “Scoliosis-Pilates, Exercises you can do at home” book, we practiced elongating on the diagonal. While we will continue to add details each week, everyone is welcome to jump in at any time. Don’t be shy. And please ask questions. These classes are for you. Welcome back to my living room! Another week with a bit of movement and relief for our spines and relief from the crisis as well. This week we re-visit the muscle cylinder and introduce some of my favorite arm work. Grab a theraband or dish towel, it’s going to be great!

We continue to explore the exercises that are best for you and scoliosis. This week we look a little closer at the securing the abdominals and spine muscles and creating a cylinder of strength. From that strength, the muscle cylinder, we can move and expand our mobility and ability. We end with more great exercises for your sore feet and introduce the first of many functional movements to help you with everyday life.

Move together for strength. This class will focus on those with scoliosis. It is also an excellent class for those with back pain as well as osteoporosis. Last week we started working on exercises in the Scolio-Pilates Home Exercise Book. We will continue doing the same. We’ll keep some of the gold standards and try something new! Your questions last week really made the course so much more meaningful. Keep the questions coming!

Scolio-Pilates: Exercise for Scoliosis Class 7 | Strong Arms for Summer!

Move together for strength! This week focuses on strengthening the shoulders and arms. Those summer dresses are leaving the closets and making their way to the streets so let’s tone up and take care of our scoliosis at the same time. We’ll be focusing on what makes the scoliosis shoulder and arm unique and how to navigate around the “sand dunes” of the spine for better alignment which means getting stronger without the pain. Scolio-Pilates: Exercise for Scoliosis Class 8| Killer Legs and “Killing me” Feet

Move together for strength! We will, of course, focus on the usual topic of lengthening and strengthening the spine but with a side focus to keep our entire body strong and happy. This week focuses on scoliosis strengthening our legs and then taking care of what supports us all day, every day: our feet. We’ll begin with exercises to keep the legs strong; because toned legs just don’t look good, they feel good! Then we’ll complete the class by focusing on what’s on the end of our legs, those cute little feet. 🙂  Why the feet? Because sometimes it’s the extremities that really take the brunt of scoliosis. Let’s move together!

Move together for strength! There are so many professional athletes with scoliosis that it begs the question: “Are they successful athletes in spite of their scoliosis? Or because of it?” Our spines accomplish a remarkable amount for us. And sometimes we feel it… But today, let’s work on the strength of our spines. Let’s work on lengthening our spines. Move together for strength! This week we focus on the strength and length of the hips and the muscles surrounding the hips. The hips are the base of the power that we need to support our spines. When the spines move off center with the scoliotic changes, the hips do a tremendous amount of work to maintain balance and stability.  In this class, the exercises will help with strengthening but also offer our hips the extra care they need. Move together for strength! This week we focus on the strength of the shoulders. We don’t often think about our shoulder pain being connected to our scoliosis, but it frequently is. If we can re-align the shoulders as we re-align our spines, we can find a new open-ness and ease of movement. It’s all about creating space so our joints can find their full range of motion without pinching and aching. Once we have the alignment, then we can strengthen! Move together for strength! Planks!  A plank, whether it’s the most basic form or a more advanced variation is going to require that your core muscles engage. We’ll begin with preps for planks that and warm our way up to the more difficult variations. Learn why planks are so wonderfully efficient at strengthening the abdominals and spine muscles. Scolio-Pilates: Exercise for Scoliosis Class 14 | Spine Stretch and Strength

Move together for strength!  Why do stretching and strengthening go hand-in-hand? Because a flexible spine is a strong spine. We’ll focus on the creating space in a curves today to help us create length. Once we have that length, we’ll focus on the strength to help us maintain our longer, more open alignment. Join me! Move together for strength!  It’s July and it’s HOT! Let’s keep our spines moving with the gracefulness of a cool ocean wave. Move together for strength!  Time to celebrate our hips and all that is attached to them. We will be working on the connection of the hips to the spine and the hips to the lower leg.
