Nice to meet you – My name is Hila Weise,  and I have a significant scoliosis that was diagnosed when I was 17, when I was finishing the growth process. My parents took me to consult with many specialists who recommended surgery, but because I did not suffer any significant pain we decided not to do surgery. Since then, my personal journey has been to strengthen and maintain my body and the scoliosis. Over the years, the scoliosis has worsened and I began to worry. I went to a variety of experts. I did not find a solution that could help stop  or reduce my scoliosis further.

About two years ago, we went to live in the United States where I was exposed and first experienced Scolio-Pilates- exercises that helped me understand my scoliosis. It helped me to understand how I can correct my muscular imbalance and improve my posture, spine, back muscles, breath and feeling. Scoliosis has a genetic basis and I “inherited” it to my daughter, which means that at this point her spine still looks “neutral”, but her muscles are pulling in exactly the places of my scoliosis and therefore all her posture is unbalanced. This has pushed me to go study Scolio-Pilates and bring it to Israel I believe very much in the way of Scolio-Pilates and want to help more people.

Scolio-Pilates – is a three-dimensional exercise method for scoliosis, which works on creating “corrections” to the muscle balance, improving the whole body posture (from the feet to the crown) combined with tissue work of the Fascia, in order to produce most effective neuro-neural connections. From a more balanced position of posture and muscle, we elongate and practice muscle strengthening while breathing and elongating. The practice combines breathing techniques to open areas of the rib cage and lungs that are locked from the scoliosis and to use small equipment that may help a person to understand and consciously create the new muscular balance.

Scolio-Pilates is suitable for working with people in any age and with a variety of back problems and back pain. Scolio-Pilates is also suitable and recommended for working with children and adolescents who have scoliosis and are in the process of growing. In the sessions we will work on developing awareness of the impaired alignment, understanding our spine, learning, and practicing how to prevent aggravation and even improve the muscular balance towards “neutral”.
